One “package” is a two-hour ceremony coordination for two people. Another is a five-day celebration for sixty guests with glass-igloo accommodation, a reindeer-sleigh arrival, and a private chef. Treating those numbers as comparable leads to frustration when couples realise that the appealing low price never included the things they assumed it did.

The most reliable way to decode any Rovaniemi wedding package is to work through a standard checklist — legal administration, venue, styling, photography, catering, accommodation, transport, and activities — and confirm, line by line, which items are included, which are add-ons, and which are simply outside the provider’s scope. What follows is exactly that checklist, drawn from the real structure of packages offered across Rovaniemi and wider Finnish Lapland.

A legally binding marriage in Finland requires an examination of impediments completed by the Digital and Population Data Services Agency (DVV). Once granted, the certificate is valid for four months — your ceremony must take place within that window. For couples whose marital status is not recorded in the Finnish population register (which applies to almost all international visitors), you will also need to provide a siviilisäätytodistus — a marital status certificate issued by your home country’s authorities or consulate. When neither partner is a Finnish citizen or resident, you must additionally submit a clarification confirming that the law of your home country permits the marriage.

The civil ceremony itself is free of charge when held during office hours at DVV premises. A fee of €250 applies for ceremonies outside office hours, plus the officiant’s travel costs to your chosen venue. Some premium packages include all DVV paperwork coordination, the officiant’s fee, and two official marriage certificates with Apostille stamps. Others list “documentation assistance” which means guidance rather than administration — the difference matters, and it is worth asking explicitly which you are getting.

Most providers who handle legal ceremonies will supply two official marriage certificates stamped with an Apostille, making the marriage recognised in the more than 120 countries that are party to the Hague Convention. If you need additional certified copies, these can be ordered later from DVV for a small administrative fee.

Rovaniemi and its surrounds offer a range of ceremony settings that no other destination can replicate. A traditional kota — the conical Sámi dwelling — provides a smoke-scented, intimate space warmed by a central fire, typically accommodating 8–30 guests. Glass-igloo chapels and ice chapels (available roughly December through March) seat 30–50 guests and hold their interiors between 0°C and −5°C, so warm layers are essential. Lakeside summer cottages with saunas and outdoor jacuzzis suit June and July weddings, when daylight can stretch to 24 hours and temperatures are mild.

Venue hire is almost always included in package pricing, but the duration of hire varies significantly. A two-hour venue slot covers the ceremony and very little else. Four to six hours allows time for styling, a short reception, and photographs in surrounding landscapes. Confirm the hire window in writing, because exceeding it often triggers a per-hour overage charge.

Entry-level packages typically include a bridal bouquet and a groom’s buttonhole, with the venue dressed in candles and minimal seasonal greenery. If floral and décor aesthetics matter to you, ask to see photographs of the décor that is actually included in the stated price, not the styled editorial images that appear on marketing materials. Many providers use premium styling imagery to illustrate packages that, at base price, deliver something considerably simpler. Photography coverage varies more than almost any other line item. Some packages include a photographer for two hours — enough to cover the ceremony and a brief portrait session. Standalone Lapland wedding photography experiences, focused heavily on landscapes and intimate portraits across multiple days, start around USD $10,000 and are sold separately from ceremony coordination.

Check whether the package includes edited high-resolution images, how many are guaranteed, and how quickly they are delivered. A common standard is a minimum of 400–500 edited images delivered digitally within four weeks. Videography is almost universally an add-on rather than an inclusion, typically priced from €1,500 upward for a short edit.

A sparkling toast immediately after the ceremony is the one catering element most packages include, even at entry level. A sit-down dinner is a different matter. Traditional Lappish menus — smoked reindeer, gravlax, lingonberry desserts, served beside an open fire in a log or kota restaurant — are exceptional, but catering is generally priced per head and added to the base package.
