Styling a Lapland wedding for around 20 guests: one long table, close seating and thoughtful detail that makes a small gathering feel abundant.

Styling an Intimate Lapland Wedding for 20 Guests: Fewer People, More Detail

Small weddings ask for more care, not less

A wedding with twenty guests is a different design problem from one with eighty. There is nowhere to hide. Every guest will see every detail, and the room is close enough that mood, scent and sound matter as much as visuals. This is what makes small weddings so rewarding to style.

The principle we follow is simple: fewer elements, chosen more carefully, and placed so that nothing feels empty.

One table changes everything

Instead of several round tables, we often recommend a single long table or a gentle U-shape. It gives the whole group a shared experience and a natural focal point. A long table lets us create a continuous centrepiece, a flowing line of candles, greenery and linen that feels generous.

We choose chairs and linens with attention, since guests will notice texture at this scale. Our note on table linens covers fabrics for winter and summer.

Make the ceremony part of the room

With a small guest list, the ceremony and dinner can often take place in the same room or in adjacent spaces. This lets us use one design language throughout. A simple backdrop of draped fabric and branches behind the couple can later become the backdrop to the dinner. We call it a quiet transformation, and it keeps the day calm.

Seating is arranged so everyone is close to the couple. In a wood-panelled lodge or a glass dome, the room itself becomes the décor.

Details guests can touch

At this scale, individual details matter. Hand-lettered place cards, a short menu in the couple’s own words, a small gift at each seat, a candle with a name. These things cost little but make each guest feel considered. We design these as part of the stationery suite, so they match the table.

A short welcome note from the couple, placed on each napkin, is often what guests remember most.

Choosing the right venue size

A small wedding deserves a room that fits. A hall built for a hundred will swallow twenty guests, however beautiful the décor. We look for venues that feel complete at this size: a lodge, a glass dome, a private dining room, a lakeside cabin. Smaller spaces hold warmth and sound better, and require less styling to feel finished.

Our partner venues are well suited to this scale. You can read more about them on our venues page.

Lighting and atmosphere for a small group

In a small room, lighting is easy to control and has a great effect. We use candles in a variety of heights, soft lamps and, where possible, a warm fire. Overhead lights are turned off or dimmed. The result is a quiet, glowing room where conversations carry easily.

Music should be chosen with the same care. A single musician or a considered playlist often suits an intimate dinner better than a full band.

Budget where it counts

A smaller wedding allows more of the budget to go towards quality: better linen, finer flowers, custom lighting, a dedicated installation. It is also easier to travel with, since less décor needs to be shipped. Our luxury vs intimate comparison explores how couples weigh these choices.

Full wedding styling begins from €4,000, and we shape each design around the number of guests, the venue and the season. You can see how we work on our weddings page.
